After a 20-month campaign to become
a Progressive Conservative candidate in the next Ontario election, Monte
McNaughton has been acclaimed to carry the party standard in Lambton Kent
Middlesex.
About 300 area Tories gathered at
Glencoe District high school for the nomination of the 29-year-old retailer
from Newbury.
McNaughton began campaigning for
the October 2007 provincial vote in April 2005.
He's a three-term civic councillor
in Newbury, making his first bid for provincial politics.
The riding is held by Liberal Maria
Van Bommel, who is expected to run again.
The New Democrats have yet to select
a candidate.
The riding is one of the largest
in Southwestern Ontario, about the same size as Prince Edward Island, stretching
from northeast of London near Granton, to Walpole Island and from the Thames
River and Lake St. Clair to Lake Huron. |
